I love HP sauce but the original HP has sugar in it and unwelcome added ingredients. So I wanted to create my own so that I can enjoy this sauce again with my steak. I also used this as a chutney.
Olive oil
1/2 onion diced
1 cup of diced tomatoes
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1/3 cup of orange juice no sugar added
1/3 cup of apple juice no sugar added
1/4 cup of honey
1/3 cup of dates
1/3 cup of prunes
1 tsp all spice
1 tsp cayenne pepper
pinch of salt and pepper
1 clove of garlic crushed
1 tsp of cloves
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
Fry the onions lightly browned using olive oil. Add the tomatoes, vinegar, juices and honey. Add the dates and prunes and the spices and stir. Simmer the mixture for about twenty minutes, maybe thirty depending on if the prunes and dates are soft. Take the sauce off of the heat and let cool. Once the sauce has cooled down pour it into the food processor. Process on low until all the ingredients are well blended and no chunks. Place in a container or bottle and chill in fridge.
