Ketchup is a staple in my house and it must be in everyone's. It goes with everything and for my kids when they were little and wouldn't eat their vegetables, ketchup to the rescue and they would then eat their dinner. Ketchup is tasty but it contains refined sugar and other ingredients that we don't want our families consuming or ourselves; so I came up with a ketchup recipe today and I think it is pretty close to the store bought brands. I hope you think so to.
1 can of tomato paste
1 can of tomato puree
1/4 cup of white vinegar
3 tbsp of coconut sugar
1/2 onion diced
1 garlic clove, crushed
1/2 tsp of allspice
1/4 tsp of ground cloves
2 tsp of olive oil
2 tbsp of honey
pinch of salt and pepper
Add the onion to a saucepan and fry until slightly brown. Add all the rest of the ingredients to saucepan and simmer and stir for 20 minutes. Take the ketchup mixture off the heat and let cool for half and hour. Pour the ketchup into a food processor and blend on low until the onions are combined with the mixture. Pour into a bottle and refridgerate. Enjoy
